This blog follows the students of Pacific School of Religion students on the 2015 pilot immersion trip to Cuernavaca, Mexico from August 10th to the 20th.
This experience, based in the beautiful city of “Eternal Spring,” is focused on gaining Spanish language skills, engaging in active dialogue with our neighbors about issues of social justice, and living with a Mexican family.
PSR and CLGS are partnering with CETLALIC, a language school with deep progressive roots and a passion for facilitating learning between our countries, cultures, and peoples. They use a liberating pedagogy which includes both serious study and a great deal of fun together.
Participants will learn from and with LGBTQ people, liberation theologians, communities of faith, women’s groups, and social justice advocates. The program features language instruction, including regular conversation, as well as visits to museums, heritage sites, social justice programs, fiestas and more. CETALIC is uniquely suited to welcome LGBTQ people and our family members and allies, including homestays with genuinely welcoming families. This trip is a special opportunity being offered as a pilot program.
